Empire Life introduced a new digital mental health platform to its group benefits portfolio as Digital Health Week began, expanding access to self-guided support for plan members across Canada.

The insurer has announced that myStrength by Teladoc Health Canada will be available to plan members with Telemedicine coverage starting Dec. 1. The platform offers self-managed resources for mental health concerns, including stress, anxiety, sleep issues, chronic pain, and depression. The company framed the move as a response to growing demand for flexible mental health services in the workplace.

Findings from the 2025 Benefits Canada Healthcare Survey show that 28% of plan members want to improve their mental health, a figure that rises to 41% among respondents aged 18 to 34. Industry researchers have noted persistent pressure on employers to expand mental well-being supports as younger workers report higher stress levels and longer wait times for public services.

In its announcement, Empire Life said the addition is intended to broaden access to digital support without requiring changes to employer premiums.

“In today’s competitive talent market, employers are seeking cost-effective ways to deliver truly meaningful benefits,” said Vanessa Lycos, vice-president of group product and marketing. “By offering myStrength to our plan members with the telemedicine service, we are not just making a new toolkit available—we’re providing a strategic advantage.”

myStrength is owned and operated by Teladoc Health Canada. According to the insurer, the platform provides 24/7 private access to more than 1,100 evidence-based activities and tools. A short in-app questionnaire guides users to suggested activities, while an asynchronous coaching feature offers personalized recommendations and progress tracking. Teladoc data indicates a 96% satisfaction rate among users, with 82% reporting the experience as effective as in-person therapy.

Empire Life said the launch aligns with broader efforts to streamline benefits administration while providing accessible mental health resources. The company noted rising expectations for digital self-help tools that can support employees regardless of location or wait-time barriers in public healthcare.
