Tune Protect Group Berhad has introduced CyberSafe, a digital protection product for travellers, in partnership with BOXX Insurance.
The offering, now available in the EMEIA and Asia-Pacific regions, is designed to address the increasing frequency of cyber incidents affecting individuals during travel.
The insurance industry is observing a notable rise in cyber risks targeting travellers. Data breaches, phishing attempts, and identity theft are becoming more common, particularly as travellers rely on digital services and public networks.
Seth Ruden, director of global advisory at BioCatch, noted that cyber risks are not limited to any one group, stating that all individuals are susceptible.
“But frequent travellers are likely targets, as travel rewards, airline miles, and other stored payment details on travel accounts can be lucrative and easily monetizable,” he said, as reported by Forbes.
Industry research indicates that concerns about digital security are at a record high. A recent survey by Travelers Insurance showed that 62% of respondents expressed worry about online safety, the highest level in over a decade.
In 2024, Check Point research found that one in every 33 new vacation-related domains was malicious or suspicious, often mimicking legitimate travel platforms.
Frank Harrison, regional security director at World Travel Protection, noted that cybercriminals have expanded their capabilities.
“Threat actors now have the capabilities to identify and target mobile devices, deliver malicious code to the device, access a device to track your location, activate your device’s microphone, and intercept messages,” he said, as reported by Forbes.
CyberSafe provides a suite of services including real-time alerts, incident response, identity monitoring, threat intelligence, and educational resources.
The product is accessible through Tune Protect’s B2B portal and API, allowing travel agents and online travel agencies to integrate the solution into their offerings. CyberSafe is available as a standalone product or as an add-on, with pricing starting at US$4.
How Kim Lian (pictured), group CEO of Tune Protect, said the introduction of the new digital protection product represents an important step in expanding the company’s offerings beyond conventional insurance.
“By embedding cyber safety into our travel insurance ecosystem, we are offering added value to digital-first consumers, including remote professionals and tech-savvy travellers who require integrated, always-on protection,” he said.
Milan Naik, president of BOXX Insurance for Asia & Middle East, added that the collaboration with Tune Protect aims to position cyber protection as a standard component of travel insurance.
“Travellers today face digital risks at every turn, from unsecured public Wi-Fi to phishing scams. CyberSafe provides the confidence and security they need to navigate their journeys safely,” he said.
