MS Amlin, a Lloyd’s global re/insurer, has announced the appointment of Christiern Dart (pictured) as its incoming chief executive officer (CEO). Dart, who previously held the position of group chief underwriting officer (CUO) at Brit, will officially begin his tenure in January 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
Dart brings over 30 years of experience within the international re/insurance sector. He spent 17 years at Brit, with five years as group CUO, managing an underwriting capacity exceeding £2 billion across a multi-line portfolio.
His career at Brit began with underwriting responsibilities in the North American property and casualty portfolio, a news release highlighted. He progressed to roles as deputy active underwriter and later active underwriter for Syndicates 2987 and 2988. Prior to his tenure at Brit, Dart held similar underwriting roles at Liberty Syndicates and CNA Re, where he began his career in 1994.
Dart will take over from Andrew Carrier, who will step down after serving as MS Amlin’s CEO for three years. Carrier will remain within the wider Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (MSI) group as an executive officer.
Carrier first joined MS Amlin in 2020 as CUO. According to the company, Carrier’s tenure as CEO marked a period of significant transformation for the firm. Under his leadership, the company reported its best financial performance in over a decade in 2023 and sustained strong results through 2024. Carrier will stay on until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
“I am delighted to announce Christiern’s appointment as MS Amlin’s new CEO,” said Shinichiro Funabiki, president and CEO of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. “His leadership and strategic approach at Brit clearly demonstrate his talent, and I speak for the board and the broader executive team in MSI, when I say how excited I am for him to start his new role with us and take the company to the next stage of its development.”
“I’m so excited to make the move to MS Amlin, and to continue the excellent work of the entire business,” said Dart. “MS Amlin is such a well-respected name in the market, and with the unmatched support of MSI and the wider MS&AD group, I know exciting opportunities and times lie ahead for us all.”
