Zurich Malaysia has rolled out Z-Driver EV Protect, an insurance and takaful solution designed for electric vehicle (EV) owners, while partnering with Gentari to improve charging infrastructure across the country.
According to a news release, the plan extends protection beyond traditional motor coverage to include EV-specific components such as batteries, home wall chargers, and portable charging accessories. With an add-on premium or contribution starting at RM120, the package also offers coverage for home chargers of up to RM15,000, portable cables of up to RM2,000, and personal liability while charging of up to RM50,000. A compassionate allowance of up to RM20,000 for incidents at public charging stations and optional coverage for battery damage caused by water ingress are also included.
“EV owners face a unique set of risks that go beyond traditional motor insurance and takaful. Z-Driver EV Protect is designed to address these concerns, offering practical coverage that reflects how EVs are used today,” said Foo Chuen Hou, chief distribution officer, general segment of Zurich Malaysia.
Zurich’s new protection complements its existing benefits under the Z-Driver package, including unlimited towing in the event of battery depletion.
The insurer also announced its collaboration with Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd, to support the growth of Malaysia’s EV charging network. Zurich’s brand presence has been extended to 13 charging stations located in high-footfall destinations such as Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KLIA2 Gateway, The Gardens Mall, and Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru.
“Reliable charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role in enabling more Malaysians to embrace electric mobility,” said Teresa Wong, chief risk officer – general segment and head of sustainability risk for Zurich Malaysia. “Our collaboration with Gentari is not just about increasing the number of chargers, it’s about helping to build a more connected and confident EV ecosystem.”
“Gentari is committed to creating a robust green mobility ecosystem in Malaysia, and our collaboration with Zurich Malaysia is another step in that direction,” said Aliah Nasreen Abdullah, Gentari green mobility chief customer officer. “Together, we’re expanding the availability of EV chargers and enhancing the entire ownership experience.”
Zurich said the initiative supports its sustainability goals by addressing key barriers to EV adoption, including reliable and accessible charging.
