Willis, NATS sign MoU to deliver integrated aviation risk solutions

Willis has entered a partnership with NATS, a provider of air traffic control services, to offer risk and resilience advisory services and tailored solutions to stakeholders in the global aviation sector.

The two companies formalised their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Dubai Airshow 2025. The event was attended by representatives from government, aviation, and aerospace firms.

Under the agreement, Willis and NATS will combine their expertise in airspace operations and ground-based risk management to deliver integrated solutions for aviation providers. The aim is to help manage risk and enhance resilience across the industry.

The timing of this partnership coincides with a period of significant change in the aviation insurance market. Recent analysis indicates that, although insurance capacity remains robust, the sector is navigating increased inflation, higher claims costs, and ongoing disputes over leased aircraft stranded due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

These factors are prompting insurers and reinsurers to adopt a more cautious stance, with a focus on clients who demonstrate strong risk management and loss prevention practices.

Tania Roca, executive director, Risk & Resilience Advisory at Willis Global Aviation & Space, said, “Resilience in aviation is no longer a choice, it’s essential. Geopolitical shocks, cyber threats, climate disruptions, and supply chain volatility have become the norm in our industry.”

Market conditions are further complicated by rising aircraft values, increased costs for repairs and parts, and potential liabilities related to technical issues such as those involving the Boeing 737 MAX.

Geopolitical risks and unresolved claims linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict are also influencing underwriting decisions, leading insurers to be more selective and strategic in their approach to coverage and pricing. Read more.

Pamela Thomson-Hall, head of international at Willis, said the partnership brings together Willis’ risk and resilience expertise with NATS’ airspace capabilities to “enhance innovation, safety and fortitude across the sector.”

Ben Kiff, managing director international for NATS, said, “We’re delighted to join forces with Willis Global Aviation & Space.” He noted that the partnership combines NATS’ operational experience in complex aviation environments with Willis’ understanding of risk and resilience, positioning the companies to support customers as the industry continues to develop.
