Old Republic International Corporation has established a new underwriting subsidiary, Old Republic Environmental, Inc., to offer environmental insurance products.

The new entity will provide primary and excess liability solutions tailored to businesses across various industries and sizes. Distribution will occur through a network of wholesale and retail brokers, with an emphasis on delivering specific coverage options and expert consultation.

George Holderied (pictured above) has been appointed president of Old Republic Environmental. Holderied, a Rutgers University graduate, brings 22 years of environmental underwriting experience, most recently serving at AIG.

“Environmental insurance is a specialty product that aligns with our strategy and focus on underwriting excellence,” said Craig R. Smiddy, president and CEO of Old Republic International.

Smiddy noted that Holderied’s expertise in environmental sciences and underwriting, combined with Old Republic’s brand and resources, positions the new subsidiary to expand the company’s specialty insurance offerings.

In recent months, Old Republic International has also announced leadership changes at one of its subsidiaries, BITCO Insurance Companies. Meyer Lehman was named president of BITCO, effective May 1, while Vince Lamb continues as chief executive officer.

According to Smiddy, Lehman’s contributions since joining BITCO in 2023 have supported growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.

Earlier this year, Old Republic appointed CJ Pruzinsky and Kevin McGowan to lead its newly formed underwriting subsidiary, Old Republic Cyber Inc. The new company focuses on providing cyber and technology errors and omissions insurance products, as well as specialized cyber- and technology-related coverage.

Pruzinsky was named president, while McGowan serves as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer. Both executives bring experience from AIG, Beazley, Ace, and Resilience, and are expected to expand Old Republic’s expertise in cyber insurance.

Old Republic marked its 100th anniversary in August 2023 by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
