Canopius Group has expanded its energy underwriting team in Asia-Pacific with the appointment of Ray Wong (pictured above) as energy underwriter.
Based in Singapore, he reports directly to Johnny Kim, head of energy and construction, APAC.
Wong brings more than a decade of experience in handling energy risks across international markets. At Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited, his focus included both offshore and onshore upstream energy portfolios, covering construction as well as operational exposures.
Kim said the hire reflects the company’s intent to strengthen its regional energy capabilities.
“Ray’s technical depth and commercial mindset make him an excellent addition to our energy team. His track record in underwriting complex energy risks, combined with his experience in renewable energy, will strengthen our capabilities and support our growth ambitions across APAC. We’re delighted to welcome him to Canopius,” Kim said.
The move comes as Canopius reports strong regional performance in 2025. In the first half of the year, its APAC unit increased written premiums by 33%, a performance that significantly bolstered the group’s overall results.
Wong’s appointment took effect on Sept. 4.
