AXA Climate has launched a new educational initiative titled “Oceans: Call from The Deep”, designed to improve public understanding of marine ecosystems and their critical role in maintaining global climate balance.

According to a news release, the course is a response to increasing concern over the vulnerability of the world’s oceans, which cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface but remain insufficiently understood. The program is part of AXA Climate’s broader commitment to climate adaptation through science, education, and data-driven strategies.

The course will be introduced at the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) in Nice, from June 9 to 13. To mark this event and support international dialogue, AXA Climate will offer free public access to the course for one month.

The company highlights several key threats facing marine environments. Ocean acidification, rising sea temperatures, overexploitation of marine resources, and pollution are listed as interconnected pressures that jeopardise both biodiversity and the long-term sustainability of human societies. The program emphasises that addressing these challenges begins with a deeper understanding of the systems at risk.

Structured into thematic chapters, the “Oceans: Call from The Deep” course combines scientifically validated content with interactive learning tools, including videos and quizzes. It is intended for a broad audience, ranging from individuals and local governments to businesses and civic organisations.

“The ocean plays a fundamental role in climate balance, yet this fact remains largely unknown to the general public,” said Antoine Poincaré, director of the climate school at AXA Climate. “The Ocean Course aims to raise awareness by offering rigorous, scientifically grounded content accessible to anyone wishing to inform themselves and take action.”

AXA Climate, a subsidiary of the AXA Group, has long integrated climate adaptation into its services, which include parametric insurance products, consulting, and more than 40 hours of online training.

Additional information on the course is available on AXA Climate’s website.
