The Ardonagh Group has completed a US$2.5 billion equity investment led by Stone Point Capital, a US-based private equity firm.

The investment, which values Ardonagh at US$14 billion, brings Stone Point in as a significant shareholder alongside existing backers Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), HPS Investment Partners (HPS) and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

According to Ardonagh, the investment is intended to support its long-term growth strategy, including further expansion in the global property and casualty insurance market. The funds will be used to pursue both organic initiatives and M&A across its platform of businesses, which operate in wholesale, retail and specialist distribution across multiple regions.

The capital will also be directed toward technology and data capabilities, including initiatives like Ardonagh Intelligence, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.

The transaction attracted co-investment interest from institutions connected to Stone Point, MDP and HPS, reflecting continued investor demand for exposure to the insurance distribution sector.

Formed in 2017 through the merger of several UK insurance businesses, Ardonagh has grown into an international broking group placing approximately US$18 billion in gross written premium annually. Its operations span the full insurance distribution chain, with businesses in the UK, Europe, the United States, Asia-Pacific and other key markets.

The equity raise follows several transactions and structural changes in 2024. These include the merger of Ardonagh’s personal lines business with Markerstudy in June and the AU$2.3 billion acquisition of Australia’s PSC Insurance Group in October. The Group completed 68 acquisitions during the year across a range of markets.

In addition to acquisition activity, Ardonagh restructured its capital through refinancing in February 2025 and launched Ardonagh Intelligence in March, a project focused on leveraging machine learning and data enrichment tools to support business operations.

Ardonagh said the latest investment enhances its financial flexibility and supports its ability to scale existing operations while entering new markets. Stone Point joins a consortium of institutional investors backing the platform’s growth ambitions.
